SportPesa Increases Support for Kenyan Rugby
SportPesa has announced an increased investment of KES 34.14 million as the title sponsor for the Kenyan National Sevens Circuit in 2026. This new commitment, more than double last year’s KES 15 million, emphasizes the company’s focus on developing local rugby and broadening the sport’s reach across the nation. The funding will enhance technical capabilities and improve fan experience.
Allocation of Funds to Enhance Rugby Development
A significant portion of the investment, KES 16.14 million, is earmarked for infrastructure improvements, with each of the six host clubs receiving KES 1 million. The funds also extend to the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) for operational and prize money allocation, with the KRU Secretariat receiving KES 6 million for tournament expenses.
Enhanced Fan Engagement and Rewards
SportPesa is also dedicating KES 18 million toward fan engagement, including content production and livestreaming, with KES 2 million specifically for fan merchandise. The prize pool has been expanded to KES 4.14 million, increasing incentives for participating teams.
Upcoming Sevens Circuit Events
The Sevens Caravan will traverse five towns from July to September, beginning with the Prinsloo Sevens in Nakuru and culminating at the Christie Sevens in Nairobi. This series will serve as a platform for rising rugby talent in Kenya.
SportPesa’s Vision for Kenyan Rugby
Willis Ojwang, SportPesa’s Public Relations and Advertising Manager, expressed the company’s commitment to nurturing future rugby stars. He invited other partners to join in supporting this vital sports initiative.
This substantial investment signals a promising future for Kenyan rugby, fostering the next generation of champions.
