Sands China Aims for $700M Macau EBITDA with Rising VIP Share

Macau’s Ambitious EBITDA Target

Las Vegas Sands is maintaining its ambitious goal of achieving a quarterly EBITDA of $700 million from its Macau operations, as indicated during their second-quarter 2026 earnings discussion. The focus on high-value clientele has been paramount, with Sands China capturing 26 percent of Macau’s rolling-chip volume. A notable ascent from fourth to first place in this segment was highlighted by Sands China CEO Grant Chum.

VIP Market Expansion Drives Growth

The goal remains a significant increase from the $430 million in EBITDA reported for the second quarter, showcasing a narrowed margin compared to the prior year. Executives note that, at a normalized win rate, EBITDA would have achieved $517 million. Strategies initiated in May 2025 have significantly bolstered the top market segment, according to management.

Impact of External Factors

Despite achieving record mass-market gross gaming revenue in May, performance dipped in June, attributed partially to the FIFA World Cup affecting visitor numbers. The quarter’s EBITDA was also impacted by an unusually low VIP rolling win rate, described as the most substantial adjustment historically in Macau by CEO Patrick Dumont.

Venetian Macao Renovation and Future Plans

To support these financial targets, The Venetian Macao is undergoing a major renovation set to conclude by early 2028. The refurbishment will expand premium accommodation offerings and add exclusive gaming salons. Approximately 400 rooms were unavailable during the second quarter, with a continued impact expected into 2027.

Investment and Revenue Optimization

Sands China plans to maintain its focus on player reinvestment and operating cost efficiencies. Enhanced reinvestment strategies, longer gaming hours, and improved service levels are central to their approach. Management anticipates a moderation in operating expenses going forward, aiming to capitalize on the elevated revenue potential.

In summary, Sands China is strategically steering towards expanding its market share and optimizing margins, underpinned by significant investments and a robust VIP market focus.
