Visitor Growth in Macau
Macau has recorded a significant milestone by welcoming over 20 million visitors in 2026, achieving this figure by June 20, which is 18 days earlier than the previous year. The increase marks a 10.2 percent rise in daily arrivals, averaging 116,000 visitors.
Major Source Markets
Mainland China remains the dominant contributor with 14.64 million visitors, while significant numbers came from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and other international markets. South Korea led the foreign visitor count, followed closely by the Philippines and Thailand.
Entry Points and Traffic Management
The Border Gate is the primary point of entry, accommodating 43.5 percent of traffic. Meanwhile, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, Hengqin Port, and the International Airport also see substantial activity. Efforts are underway to coordinate closely with authorities to manage the summer season influx.
Forecast and Future Expectations
Macau is on track for a record year, with expectations of reaching 41 million visitors. This includes 3 million international travelers, as projected by the Macao Government Tourism Office. Enhanced strategies will be in place to manage tourist flow efficiently.
Strategies for Managing Peak Season
To cope with the increased numbers, the Public Security Police will work with mainland and Hong Kong authorities, implementing flexible inspection lanes and deploying more officers in key tourist areas, similar to strategies seen in other rapidly growing tourist destinations.
