Ng Wai Han Takes Over as Macau’s Economy Head

Ng Wai Han’s New Appointment

Ng Wai Han has been appointed as Macau’s Secretary for Economy and Finance. This decision, made public on June 10th, 2026, was by the State Council following a recommendation from Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai. Ng’s role is crucial as it includes overseeing the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ).

Transition in Leadership

Ng’s prior leadership of the DICJ, which began in May 2025 and was extended this year, prepared her for this new position. The role became available after Tai Kin Ip’s resignation in April.

Ng Wai Han’s Professional Trajectory

Before taking charge of Macau’s gaming regulation, Ng was the director of the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau and spent over two decades at the Labor Affairs Bureau, illustrating her extensive public service background.
