A recent stakeholders meeting, under the banner of “Fostering a Culture of Compliance and Responsible Communication among Licensed Operators,” saw telecom operators and the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) discuss strategies. The focus was on regulatory adherence and tackling unauthorized online platforms.
Driving Digital and Mobile Transformation
NLGRB chief Denis Mudene emphasized the necessity of strong collaboration. This partnership intends to detect and deter unlicensed online gambling, ensuring seamless information exchange between regulatory bodies and network providers as the industry shifts to digital.
Role of Telecommunications in Regulation
UCC executive director George William Nyombi Thembo highlighted the critical role of telecommunications in fostering connectivity and innovation while adhering to regulations. Collaboration with telecom firms is pivotal in identifying illegal activities and maintaining compliance.
Broader Regulatory Initiatives
These efforts are part of a larger regulatory framework in Uganda. Earlier initiatives this year included the launch of the National Central Electronic Monitoring System and collaborations to adopt international standards, bolstering transparency and accountability.
