Vietnam Sees 14.9% Increase in Foreign Visitors H1 2026

Foreign Visitors Surge in First Half of 2026

In the initial six months of 2026, Vietnam welcomed approximately 12.3 million international tourists, marking a 14.9% rise compared to the previous year. This figure represents nearly half of the country’s annual target of 26 million, spurred by heightened regional demand and effective promotional strategies.

Key Drivers Boosting Tourism Numbers

The National Statistics Office of Việt Nam, under the Ministry of Finance, revealed these figures. In June, Vietnam attracted 1.68 million foreign visitors, a 14.7% increase year-on-year. This growth was supported by advantageous visa policies, enhanced tourism promotions, diversified offerings, and efforts to reach more international markets.

Regional Contributions to Visitor Growth

Asia contributed over 9 million arrivals, up 7.7% from last year, making it the largest source region. Europe followed with 2 million visitors, exhibiting the highest growth rate at 56.1%. Meanwhile, arrivals from the Americas, Oceania, and Africa amounted to 694,000, 371,000, and 30,000 respectively, showing growth between 19.1% and 22.2%.

Travel Methods and Domestic Tourism Insights

Air travel remained predominant, with 10.1 million arrivals, or 82.6% of the total. Land and sea arrivals reached 1.9 million and 209,000, respectively, with land travel witnessing a 37.5% increase. Domestic tourism remained robust, recording 81 million trips, 54% of the yearly target.

Future Plans to Sustain Tourism Growth

Tourism revenue totaled VND569 trillion ($21.6 billion), meeting 50.5% of the annual goal. The VNAT General Director emphasized 2026 as crucial for tourism’s role in achieving double-digit economic growth. Plans include proposing supportive policies, boosting promotion in key markets, and enhancing service quality and environmental measures. Strategies like the Greater Sentosa Initiative are examples of regional efforts to boost visitor numbers, while cross-border travel is also rising, as seen in the Gongbei Checkpoint Traffic to Macau in 2026.
