Greater Sentosa Initiative to Boost Visitor Numbers

Major Sentosa Transformation Unveiled

On July 3rd, Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) introduced the ambitious Greater Sentosa Master Plan (GSMP), aimed at reshaping the resort landscape by integrating the nearby island of Brani. This strategic move, spearheaded by key figures such as Edmund Koh and Grace Fu, promises to elevate Sentosa’s appeal, notably around Genting Singapore’s Resorts World Sentosa (RWS).

Expected Doubling of Visitors

The execution of this comprehensive plan, highlighted at the ‘Your Island. Reimagined.’ event, anticipates doubling the number of visitors by enhancing the current tourism hub. This involves merging the 120-hectare Brani with Sentosa to create more space for accommodations and attractions.

Expansion Driven by RWS 2.0

Central to the expansion is RWS 2.0, a massive SG$6.8 billion project projected for completion in 2030. This includes new luxury hotels and entertainment venues like SUPER NINTENDO WORLD. RWS faces a regulatory review, with its casino license up for renewal in 2027.

Connectivity and Competitive Edge

To boost connectivity, the GSMP plans to link Sentosa and Brani via the Island Heart Transport Hub. New transport systems are also proposed to improve access, addressing competition with Marina Bay Sands.

Landmarks and Sustainable Development

Key attractions will include iconic landmarks and revitalized beaches. Sustainable development principles guide these initiatives, with significant projects expected to commence by the early 2030s.
